Coaching
Given the number of athletes on the team and the variety of events to train for, many coaches are needed. Christ King should supply at least 4 coaches, one for each grade, to allow the program to run smoothly. If you participated in track, or have an interest in running or fitness, please consider sharing your gifts and time with this group of students.
Team Size
We are a co-ed, combined team with St. Joseph. In 2022, we had about 25 Christ King athletes on the team, with a total team of over 80 athletes from the two schools.
Practices & Meets
Practices are typically held on Tu/Th from 5:30pm - 7:00pm (subject to change). Meets begin in April and are typically all-day events on Saturday with some beginning the Friday evening prior. Athletes compete in a minimum of four meets over the season, in track events ranging from the 50M Dash to the One Mile run, and in field events such as the Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, and Softball Throw.
Parents should review the Track Meet Schedule handed out the first week of practice and indicate their child’s availability, so coaches can easily place athletes in meet events. We understand that kids are involved in multiple sports, school and family activities that may overlap. We are flexible and just ask that the majority of practices and meets are attended and to let the coach know when a practice or meet will be missed.
Meets
We host one meet - The Metro Milwaukee Track Meet - on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. The meet is held at Quad Park in Milwaukee. It is a fantastic event!
Parent Volunteer Requirements
Each track meet attended is staffed by volunteers and many people are needed to make a meet run quickly and smoothly. As a team, we typically have to provide a few volunteers to help with field and running events for each track meet we attend. The exception to that, and when we need our largest volunteer pool, is during our team hosted Metro Milwaukee Track Meet. Parents can note their availability to help on the Track Meet Schedule discussed above.
