"Sing to the Lord, bless his name; declare his salvation day after day. Tell God's glory among the nations; among all peoples, God's marvelous deeds." -- Psalm 96: 2-3
"You join yourself to an ancient tradition in Jewish life that sees no more worthy occupation than the study and service of God as experienced in the sacred texts." --Aelred Rosser
Readers, also called lectors, proclaim God's word to His people. As a lector, you make God present for our community during the Liturgy of the Word. You take on the duty--and the privilege--of bringing the printed word to life!
Who can become a lector? We welcome any Christ King parishioner who is high school-age or older, who is comfortable with public speaking, and who loves and has knowledge of the scriptures (or wants to deepen their knowledge!)
Individualized instruction is given to those interested in this special ministry, and preparation materials are provided. For information about becoming a lector, contact the parish office at (414) 258-2604.
Prayer of Preparation for Lectors
Lord,
I have prepared my readings; I have tried to take within me the message of what I am about to read; help me, I ask, to read not just with my lips but with my whole heart and soul.
Lord, make me a hollow reed so that your voice will be heard by all who will hear me.
Free me of excessive concern over my performance, over the impression I create in this sacred action. Convert my feelings of nervousness, turn all my apprehensions into energy for proclaiming your Word with power and authority.
May Your Spirit fill me as it fills the holy words that I am about to proclaim.
Amen
