Altar servers have special responsibilities and an important role. They assist the priest at Mass and are models for behavior for the rest of the congregation. They are part of a "holy" group which means they are "set aside" or “special.”
Who can become an altar server? Training sessions are offered in the fall, usually in October and November for students in 5th grade or older. Because scheduling activities can be challenging, especially for youth, we require only one focused and intense training session with numerous date and time options. Refresher sessions may be offered later in the year, usually during the school day.
