From the Office:

Teacher Convention:  On Thursday, all of the teachers will be working on preparing documentation for our accreditation visit and also attending a three-hour session on learning centers with Lynda Rice.  Mrs. Trimberger will be sharing her expertise with teachers from other schools in the computer lab.  On Friday, each one will be at the Midwest Center for our annual teacher convention.  You may also have heard from your child(ren) that there were extra substitute teachers in the school on Tuesday and Wednesday.  They relieved teachers so they could attend additional workshops on differentiated instruction or tiered assignments.  This is all part of our professional development plan.

Documentation Needed:  Last year, I sent out a reminder asking that if any parent or former student wanted to write a comment regarding the program at Christ King School they were welcome to do so.   If you have not done so and would like to e-mail me any comments pertaining to readiness for high school, innovative happenings at CK, faculty professional development, your child's favorite activity in school, etc., you are welcome to do so.  All comments are due by October 17th.

Thanks to those individuals who have already sent your comments.

Fall Festival and Pancake Breakfast:  Sister Beth and I, along with the other School Sisters of St. Francis invite you to their fall festival on Sunday, October 12th.  Mass is at 9:00 a.m. in the historic chapel, pancakes are served from 8:30 -12:30.  Bakery, silent auction and entertainment are available until 2:30 p.m..  Tickets are still available in the school office.  $2.00 each or 6 for $10.00.  Make checks out to School Sisters of St. Francis if interested.

Immunizations:  Parents, if your child(ren) have had immunization updates, especially 4K, 5K and 6th grade, please notify the school office in writing or e-mail a.s.a.p.  Thank you!  Ms. Ericsson

School Lunch Program:  Several parents have been studying the feasibility of providing a school lunch to students on a more regular basis.  I hope that you have received the information detailing our program and lunch menu from your child.  This program will begin in November as described.  All money and orders for the lunches for November are due on October 14th.  If a child ordered lunch and is absent on a particular day, there will be no refunds of money.

I wish to thank the parents who have coordinated or volunteered with the Monday lunches in the past.  We will discontinue the pizza and Bunzel lunches.  Subs may be offered on an occasional basis.  We are beginning with a three-day program to see how it will be received.

Cell Phones:  I understand that sometimes students have cell phones in school.  It is also understood that they should be out of sight and turned off during the day.  However, I have received several statements lately that students are texting each other during the day.

Please speak to your child (ren) about this inappropriate use of phones in school.  If you require your child to bring a cell phone to school, please send a written request to me stating that your child needs a phone in school.  This request will be honored with the appropriate parent signature.  If no request is submitted, then I would expect that no cell phone would be brought to school.  Thank you for your help in this matter.

Congratulations to our Student Council Leaders:  President is Morgan Drezek, Vice President is Mary Kate Baker, Treasurer is Aubrey Murtha and Record Keeper is Gretchen Klein.  Class Representatives will be listed later.

Fire Prevention Month:  During the month of October, there is always an insert in the paper regarding fire prevention.  It is also a good time to discuss what to do in case of a fire in the home, how to escape and where to meet outside the home.  This is just a reminder to check all the batteries in the smoke detectors in the home.  In school, we have monthly fire drills.

Grades 1 and 3 will be visiting the fire safety house that will be parked on the playground for one day, Tuesday, October 21st.

VIP Day:  The Christ King School VIP Day will be held Friday afternoon, October 24, 2008, beginning with 1:00 Mass followed by special activities in the school.  Each family is encouraged to invite grandparents, aunt, uncle, or another special person to the event.  Because of space limitations, please limit the number of guests per family if at all possible.  Please fill in and return the RSVP form that is in this Wireless.  All RSVPs are due by Friday, October 17th. Thank you!

Home & School

QSP:  Our QSP sale is finished and thanks to many families, we have raised more than $16,000!  Special thanks goes to the Pickart family, the top selling family for two consecutive years.  Each Pickart child will be awarded extra prize store points at “Prize Store Day” which is Wednesday, October 29th.   In most cases, we evenly divided family points among the students in each family.  If you are concerned about how we divided your family’s points, please call us.  Thanks again!  Maria, Ann and Judy
