From the Office:

Today, we begin the month of October, the month dedicated to Mary, our Lady of the Rosary.  I encourage all families to spend some time during this month to talk about Mary and pray the rosary at least once each week.  We have the opportunity to join other families each Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Church (91st Street Church Entrance) during the month to pray together.

High School Visits:  The Catholic High Schools in the Milwaukee area are sending representatives to visit the 7th and 8th graders and give them information about their school.  Following are the Open House schedules for these schools:

DSHA - October 26th, Mass at 9:00 a.m., Open House from 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Dominican - October 22nd, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Marquette - October 26th, with Mass at 9:00, Open House from 10:00-1:00 p.m.

Messmer – November 2nd, from Noon to 2:00 p.m.

Pius XI - October 19th, from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and October 20 from 5 to 8:00 p.m.

St. Thomas More - October 26th, Mass at 9:30 a.m., Open House 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Now is the perfect time to see what our Catholic High Schools have to offer.  It is not too early for 5th and 6th grade parents to also check out any of the schools.

Gift Wrap Fund Raiser:  On Tuesday, October 7th, our gift wrap sale will end.  Please turn in your orders on or before this deadline.  I wish to thank anyone who has ordered from any of our students.  You will still be able to order on-line until the end of 2008.  Thanks also to anyone who ordered magazines from QSP.  You can order and renew at any time.  Just be sure to give credit to your child.  I received the first print out today.  So far 49 out of 235 families have reached their quota.

Walk Our Children to School Day:  The Milwaukee Police Department, Milwaukee Safety Commission, Southeast Wisconsin Safe Kids Coalition and Federal Express are requesting that each school encourage parents to walk their children to school on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

I would like to also encourage families to take this time to walk together to and from school and discuss safe procedures while walking or riding bikes to school.

Hot Lunch:  Tired of making lunches?  The lunch survey results are in, and beginning November 3rd, your mornings will be less hectic!  Christ King will begin offering lunches through our new hot lunch program served by 4 P’s in a Pod.  Due to the fact that this is a new program, we will begin by serving lunches three days per week and add on more days if you would like us to.  The new program will replace the regular Monday lunches.  Please watch for order forms and more details on Oct. 6th or 7th.  Also, thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help with this new program!  If you would like to volunteer and have not signed up yet, please contact Julie Gundersen at jgundersen@wi.rr.com or 475-7208 or Ann Baker at anndann779@yahoo.com at 453-5248.

Thank you so much to our current Monday lunch chairs who have dedicated so much time and energy to make Mondays a great way to start our week.  Thanks to Shelly Harrington, Nancy Klippel, Terri Cera, Martha Horky and Eva Leonardelli!

Respect T – Shirt Order:  Friday, October 3rd, is the final deadline for “Respect” T-shirt orders.  It is your last opportunity to own this shirt, so please stop in at the school office and pick up an order form.  The shirts will be delivered before our next “Respect Begins With Me” day on October 29th.

Home & School

New Health Room Volunteers:  Some of you still have the Red Cross DVD and the purple information sheet at your home.  We need to have them returned to the school office as soon as possible. Remember, we cannot schedule you until we have the information back from you.  The DVD needs to be given to others who want to volunteer in the Health Room. We only have so many copies so please return them with the purple information sheet.

Thank You! Thank You!:  The Clothing Resale Committee would like to express our thanks to all the Christ King community for helping at the Resale last week and this past weekend.  Without your help, it would be impossible to have the sale!  We greatly appreciate the amount of time and hard work the volunteers gave to us.  See you in November for the Toy Resale!

Attention 7th & 8th Graders:  Remember the Hang Time!  On-Line Fall Dance will be held this Saturday, October 4th, 2008 from 7:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. in Christ King North Hall.  If you plan on attending, deliver your permission slip and money ($8.00/$10.00 after October 1st) to Mrs. Bonnie Drezek c/o Morgan in Room 218/Mrs. Green.  Only students attending Christ King School and the CK Religious Ed Program will be admitted.

Gold C/Entertainment Books:  We need to close the books on the Gold C sale.  Anyone who still has their Gold C books at home, please send their payment or return the books by the end of this week.  Thank you!
