I
am enthusiastically waiting to work again with the third graders, parents
and staff this upcoming fall at Christ King! Although born in Chicago,
I was raised in New Berlin, and currently live nearby with my husband
in the city of MIlwuakee. My hobbies are reading, walking, gardening and
enjoying my cats.
I attended U.W. – Milwaukee and received my bachelor’s degree
in Social Welfare, with an emphasis in sociology. After attending college,
I worked for seven years as a caseworker for the Milwaukee Center for
Independence.
The experience was very fulfilling, because I assisted adults with special
needs to live as independently as possible in the community. I also worked
with many different families, offering parenting classes and supportive
services. The more I worked with children and their families; I decided
that I would go back to school to become a teacher. My decision to become
a teacher was also influenced by other family members that are teachers
as well.
I went back to U.W. – Milwaukee and earned my teaching license in
Elementary and Middle Education. After earning my license, I worked the
following year as a third grade teacher in M.P.S., learning how to resolve
challenging situations. My philosophy of teaching is that classrooms should
be student – centered, because I strongly believe that children
are active learners, they construct their own knowledge, and they need
to be immersed in meaningful, engaging, hands on activities. At this point
in time, I am working on attaining my Master’s Degree through Viterbo
University, which is quite exciting.
I will challenge each student to work up to his or her greatest potential.
I am looking forward to meeting each of you. This will be a blessed and
wonderful year together.
