We ask that you once again support this mission by picking up an ornament/s on the Christmas trees located at either entrance to the church starting the weekend of November 25/26.

Each ornament lists the organization and the specific items that they need. You may choose any or all of the items listed on the ornament. Drop off your gifts (unwrapped) during the following weekends: December 2/3, December 9/10 and December 16/17.

Since many of you would like to get a jump on your shopping and take advantage of the great deals during Black Friday shopping, here is the summary of the items we are collecting this year. (Please donate NEW items.)

This Advent season we are supporting three charities that serve men, women, and children and families in crisis in Milwaukee. They are Catholic Charities, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Kids Matter.

Catholic Charity, inspired by Christ’s call to serve, is the US Catholic social services organization founded in 1910, whose mission is to provide support to those in need, to advocate for justice and to call upon others to do the same. Its vision is to improve the lives of those it serves, to empower the most vulnerable, and to help reduce poverty through quality, compassionate, and effective human services.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society is an international Catholic organization of laypersons that seeks, in a spirit of justice and charity, and by person-to –person involvement of its members, to eliminate poverty and hunger. Vincentian help can include any person-to-person assistance that promotes human dignity and integrity.

Kids Matter is a local charity located at 1850 N. Martin Luther King Dr. whose mission is to help abused and neglected children heal and thrive, to bring volunteer energy and community support to foster and kinship children, and to apply lessons learned from helping children heal to preventing further child abuse.

Kids Matter Inc was founded in 2000, inspired by the compelling need to improve the lives of the many Milwaukee County children involved in the child welfare system. Far too many of these children are not thriving or finding permanent, loving homes and need help during these difficult times.

Catholic Charities Items:

All sizes: Winter coats, boots, hats and scarves, and socks for all ages of men, women and children

St. Vincent de Paul Society:

Bedding: single and double sheets, mattress pads, blankets, and pillows

All sizes: Children's winter jackets, hats, mittens, scarves, and boots

Kids Matter:

For Older Children and Teens: sleepwear, diary or journal, markers, colored pencils, age appropriate book, baseball hat, jewelry or accessories, socks and underwear (all sizes)

For Younger Children: cuddly stuffed animals, sleepwear, children’s blankets, games/toys/puzzles, coloring books, crayons and drawing paper, socks and underwear, night light, age appropriate books (all sizes)

Again, THANK YOU for your generosity to help those less fortunate. In the Liturgy of the Hours, the Church fulfills Jesus' command to "pray always" (Luke 18:1). Through this prayer, the people of God sanctify the day by continual praise of God and prayers of intercession for the needs of the world.

The Liturgy of the Hours includes several specified times of prayer. The most important times, called the "hinge hours," are Morning Prayer (which takes place upon rising) and Evening Prayer (which takes place as dusk begins to fall).

Bishops, priests, deacons, and many men and women in consecrated life pray the Liturgy of the Hours each day. Their work is organized around this prayer, keeping God always at the center of their days. Lay people are encouraged to pray the Liturgy of the Hours as well, especially Morning and Evening Prayer.

Evening Prayer gives thanks for the day just past and makes an evening sacrifice of praise to God.

Experience this beautiful and reflective Prayer of the Church on the Wednesday evenings of Advent (December 6, 13, and 20) from 5:30 until 6:00. Are you reluctant because this is your first Evening Prayer experience and aren’t certain what to do? Fear not! They have a program to help our veterans
remember their many appointments. The VA provides calendars for the coming year to the vets who need them. The VA Hospital is looking for 2018 calendars that can be donated for this service.

Do you have any 2018 calendars sent to you in "junk" mail? These calendars could be used by this VA program. If you have any of these unsolicited 2018 calendars, please send them to the school and place them in Mrs. O's mailbox or in the collection box in Mrs. O's homeroom (Room 216). Ms. Kristy Fritz, one of our CK moms who works at the VA Hospital, will deliver them to the VA as the box fills up. There will also be a box to collect these unwanted 2018 calendars in the back of Church.

Thank you so much for your help in this service to our veterans! This collection will continue until mid-January. Last year we collected over 1000 calendars for the Vets. Let's see if we can beat that amount this year!

Sincerely, Mrs. O
Small Discipleship Groups http://www.christkingparish.org/formation/smallgrouptestimonials.cfm Sun, 17 Dec 2017 00:00:00 CST SM_369
Jesus invited a small group of ordinary people to “follow Me.” His small group became his apostles. Christ King Parish presents the same invitation to follow Jesus by learning and growing together in faith with a Small Discipleship Group. Small Discipleship Groups are already enhancing the faith lives of those who participate. Read below for Kristin’s story and see for yourself!

Our parish goal is for each parishioner to find (or create) a small group that offers spiritual inspiration, faith sharing and formation, and social fellowship in a supportive environment that adapts to different faith levels and busy schedules.

Small discipleship groups can be formed or joined at anytime! If anyone missed us at our Fall Information and Sign-up sessions, please know we can be found on the parish website at: christkingparish.org/formation/smallgroups.cfm. We’ve been doing this for a couple of years now and every session is such a blessing to us. Childcare is offered in the playroom downstairs and the older kids are often at Religious Education. This offers us the opportunity to actually have uninterrupted conversations, something rare with young children in our lives. We always enjoy the lively and thoughtful conversations we have. We come with our doubts, questions, fear and failures and find comfort and hope in others’ words and experiences.

love feeling like we have a church family now, something we’ve never had before. Mass is filled with familiar faces and we have a sense of community here at Christ King. For Todd and I, as well as our two girls having a group of believers to do life with, see in the community, gather at church together, pray with, etc has been one of the most rewarding outcomes of our group. If our ultimate goal is to be disciples and to make disciples, I don’t know of a better way to begin that journey or continue that journey than being in a small group.”

Kristin Fischer
Applications for the Lawrence G. and Aurelia M.
