About Christ King Parish

Our History

Christ King Parish was established in 1939. The school, convent, rectory and church buildings were constructed over the next 24 years. Our present church was dedicated in 1956, and the final building project of the school gym was completed in 1963. An extensive project during 2004-2007 updated our facilities.

Along with the whole Catholic Church, Christ King has made many changes over the years. In the 1960s Vatican II presented a renewed image of the Church as the People of God and brought liturgical and social changes including Mass in the vernacular and more involvement of the laity. Into the 1980s our parish had four full-time clergy in residence. Today we have two priests and rely on skilled staff and laity to fulfill our mission.

Our parish family in today includes 4467 individuals in 1448 family units. In 2009 we celebrated 85 Baptisms, 62 First Communions, 40 Confirmations, 25 Marriages and 33 rites of Christian burial. Our Parish Council and committees seek to serve our parishioners now and plan for a vibrant future. Parish organizations have changed and evolved over the years and reflect the changing needs of our parish and community.

As we build a welcoming faith community,

     Our mission is to answer the call of Christ the King through:

  • Worship in the Catholic sacramental tradition;
  • Service to those in need, especially the poor;
  • Faith development throughout life;
  • and Generous stewardship of God’s many blessings.
